As far as I know, All of you have recently finished writing the final draft of your first story. Many of you posted your stories on your blog. I’ve been checking them out and they are CAPTIVATING! So good, in fact, that they should be made into movies. Using this really cool site called XtraNormal, create a scene (or many scenes) from your story. For example, RBrown, wrote a very edgy tale about love and violence that I took a scene from and a made a movie with. Check it out:
In his song The Thief in the Night Aceyalone talks about death. What does he think happens (Hint: check about half way through the song). What do you think a happens?
Have you been following the news about the U.S. economy? A lot of Americans are in big trouble. They bought houses they couldn’t afford and now they have to pay back the banks that lent them the money. Without enough money to pay their banks, people are having to declare bankruptcy and walk away from their homes. “Buyer’s remorse” is when you regret buying something after you’ve already bought it. What is the most expensive thing you wish you never bought?
**Extra Credit**
News about the economy is filled with hard-to-understand vocabulary. Help out your fellow students by picking out a vocabulary word from THIS list and defining it using your own words (no copying and pasting!)
For your final assignment on child labor, print out your poster and grab a partner to interview you about it. Using iMovie, record an interview where you answer at least 5 of the following questions:
What is child labor?
Where does it happen?
Why is it a problem?
What do children miss out on when they work?
Is their health or safety at risk?
Why do some children work?
Describe your sign
Why did you choose the image you did?
What is your signs message?
How do you hope people will react to your sign?
What should we do about child labor?
–> When you’re done, ask Mr. Lahana how to put your video onto your blog.
Are you an amazing artist or a talented writer? Judging from a lot of the work I’ve seen from you, the answer is “yes”.
