1. Watch Sneakers Part 1 by clicking HERE.

2. Create a new bubbl.us brainstorm called “Sneakers”.  Fill in everything you’ve learned so far and questions that you still have.

3. Click HERE for sneaker photos.  Choose a sneaker and use Inspiration to diagram each of the parts (as seen in Sneakers, Part 1).  Now post your diagram on your blog.

Date: September 14th, 2009

Hello 9th graders,

It’s me, Mr. Lahana!  Hope your summer was awesome and that you’re not missing your old friends and teachers at The Island School too much.  I was wondering if you could do me one last favor.  Can you write a blog post about your first week of high school?  How has it been so far?  What are your classes like? What are your new friends like? Have you joined any clubs or sports teams?  Tell us everything!!!

Missing you,

Mr. Lahana

NYC Middle School Film Festival 2009

NYC MS Film Festival

Calling all 7th and 8th grade students! Tell the world your story and win a chance to make your own short film at a professional film school!

Here’s the deal:

  • Write a film story inspired by your life.
  • Win a scholarship to a two week Film Production Camp this summer with the New York Film Academy where students will make their own films.
  • Have your short film screened in the Fall at the NYC Middle School Film Festival 2009 event.

The theme of this year’s festival is My Life, My Lens.  This theme asks you to begin thinking about the moments in your life, both small and big; in school, at home, or in the community; alone or with family or friends, that are significant, memorable or unique.  It’s all about your experiences, strengths, hopes and challenges that make you who you are.

–> Tell Mr. Lahana if you’re interested and I’ll help you with the application.

Publish your movie on your blog (ask Mr. Lahana how).

The Break-In: Girlfriend’s Story

breakin_girlfriend

We’ve heard from the boyfriend who broke into his girlfriend’s social networking account.  Now it’s time to hear what the girlfriend has to say. Click HERE to watch The Break-In: Girlfriend’s Story.  Then click below to choose your answer:

A) Contact the king of the internet and have him banned for life.

B) He’s a Stalker, change your identity.

C) Tell him that if he likes you he needs to trust you.

In your blog do one of the following activities:

1.  Pretend you are the girlfriend in this video.  Write a break-up email to your boyfriend now that you know he broke into your social networking account.  Include all the reasons that led to your decision to break up with him.

2.  Pretend you are the boyfriend in this video. Write an apology email for breaking into your girlfriend’s social networking account (it better be good!)  Include all the reasons you know what you did was wrong and how you will make it up to her.

The Break-in: Boyfriend’s Story

breakin-pic

So lately we’ve been blogging about how technology changes friendships and relationships.  Most of you wrote that it’s easier to say loving or hurtful things by text or email than it is to say face-to-face.  In fact, it’s easier to do a lot of things online that you would probably never do in person. Click below to see an example:

Click HERE to watch The Break In.  Now choose an answer:

a) Break into her page when she’s not around and check her messages.

b)  Hire a private detective

c)  Just ask her.  Her reaction will say it all.

———————-

Now, in your blog answer the following questions:

1.  Which answer did you pick first?  Why?

2. Can you think of other things that people do online that they wouldn’t normally do in person?  Give examples.

3. How important is your privacy online?  Do you care if your friends know your passwords?  If you have one, do you let anyone view your MySpace, Facebook, etc.  pages?  Explain.

Assignment 29 (7th and 8th Grade): Trash Talk, Part 3
