Assignment 28 (6th Grade): Super Size Me, Part 7

1.  Watch Super Size Me Part 7 by clicking HERE.

2.  Now watch this anti-soda animation by clicking HERE

profit-cola

3.  In Super Size Me Part 7 you saw a man who had to get his stomach tied because he got so fat from drinking soda.  Please create an XtraNormal movie or ToonDoo comic about the dangers of soda and what you can drink instead of it.

Assignment (6th Grade): Super Size Me, Part 6

ronny

Watch Super Size Me Part 6 by clicking HERE.

1.  Make a list of EVERYTHING you ate yesterday.

2. Next, visit Calorie Lab or Calorie Counter and mark the number of calories each food you ate contains.  Your list should look something like this:

Apple- 55 Calories

Egg sandwich- 466

Fruit punch- 260

3. Now, add all your calories together. Write down your total.

4. If you’re a girl, subtract 1850 calories from your total.  If you’re a boy, subtract 2200 calories from your total. This tells you how many EXTRA calories you are eating each day.  For example, if I ate 3000 calories and I’m a boy, my formula would be  3000 – 2200 = 800 Extra Calories.

5. Finally, visit Calorie Control.  Choose an exercise and find out  how long you’d need to do it for to burn your extra calories (in my case, how long to burn 800 extra calories).

Assignment 26 (6th Grade) : Super Size Me, Part 5

You just saw a cafeteria where the students ate french fries and coke for lunch. The cafeteria did not seem to have many healthy meals for their students. In your blog answer the following questions:

1. Is our cafeteria different?

2. What do you eat for lunch?

3. Would you like to see more fresh and healthy foods in the cafeteria? If so, what?

Assignment 25 (6th Grade) : Super Size Me, Part 4

chicken.jpg

Click HERE to watch Part 4 of Super Size Me.

1. What is one surprising thing you learned in Part 4? Why did it surprise you?

2. Make a list of 10 foods you believe would make up a healthy meal (include some pictures please).

3. Why do you think it’s so hard to get people to eat less junk food and eat more fruits, vegetables, and healthy meals?

**Bonus**

What can families, markets, schools, and/or restaurants do to help kids your age eat healthier? (think of things that may ACTUALLY WORK!)

Assignment 24 (6th Grade) : Super Size Me, Part 3

Click HERE to watch Super Size Me Part 3.

Now, click HERE to go to McDonald’s Bag a McMeal page.  Order enough food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Now, answer the following questions in your blog:

1) How many calories did your McDonald’s meals add up to? How much fat?

2) Did your McDonald’s meal add up to more calories and fat than is recommended for your age (look at the chart above)? If so, how much more?

3) Did the results surprise you? Why or why not?

Assignment 23 (6th Grade) : Super Size Me, Part 2

micky.jpg

Watch Part 2 of Super Size Me by clicking HERE (ask for password).  Now, answer the following questions in your blog:

1. Do you think consumers have the right to sue McDonalds for selling unhealthy food? Why or why not?

2. The McDonalds corporation is the largest owner of private playgrounds in the world. What other techniques (ways) does McDonalds use to market their food to children?

3.  How many calories do you think a healthy kid should eat in a day (click here for a clue)?  According to the movie, how many calories are in a Super Size fries?  How about a Double Gulp soda?

Assignment 22 (6th Grade) : Super Size Me, Part 1

51t82fs9y8l_ss500_.jpg

Watch part 1 of Supersize (ask me for password).  Please answer these questions in your blog:

1. How many times a week do you eat at McDonalds or other fast food restaurants? Do you ever think about whether what you are eating is healthy? Why or why not?

2. What do you predict will happen to Morgan’s health at the end of the month? Do you think he will remain in perfect health?

3. In one scene there is a shot of a McDonalds inside of a hospital. What do you think about that? Do you find it normal, funny, strange, or sad?
